By fine Art, wildlife and nature photographer: Oliver Klink

If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting Antarctica, this is the trip to join. Sailing in comfort aboard the comfortable and well-appointed One Ocean Navigator, we begin this 12 night, 13 day expedition at the tip of South America onboard Antarctica's mobile wilderness/adventure lodge. We chart a course through the Drake Passage and might make landfall in the South Shetland Islands prior to reaching the Lemaire Channel to the Northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. When we arrive at the Antarctic Peninsula, be prepared to be dazzled. The abundance of wildlife is truly extraordinary including five seal species, massive penguin rookeries of gentoo, adélie and chinstrap as well as a profusion of seabirds from albatross to skuas. The landscape is even more astonishing with icebergs, horizon to infinity, clouds, and unimaginable light. It is nature you will experience up close and personal on frequent specialized excursions inland and on water.

 Antarctica Itenerary

We’ll have exquisite nature and wildlife and the following added experience:

  1. We teach you how to photograph and find a vision for your photographic endeavor. There are no substitutes to nightly image reviews, one-on-one instructions, and guideline to best capture these amazing scenes. You’ll be able to get creative day after day and get inspired by the wealth of knowledge the instructors share.
  2. Oliver Klink has extensive knowledge on how to photograph wildlife, nature, grand landscapes in Antarctica… and best of all he will share all his tips on how to maximize output with your DSLR or medium format camera.
  3. We will be searching for the best photographic opportunities whether onshore, in the zodiac or on board to capture the beauty of Antarctica. This means more time onshore, hands-on guidance, and no schedule to limit your creative streak.
  4. As an option, you’ll even have an opportunity to “sleep under the stars”. Experience the quietness of the wilderness, the sound of ice at night. You’ll be suited to stay overnight on the ice.
  5. Prime dates for the voyage. Snow is a good possibility at this time of year in Antarctica—which greatly enhances the look of your photography. The wildlife colonies are much cleaner and relatively free of excrement than later in the season. There are many big icebergs. And we avoid the big December holiday rush.
  6. Come back home with images and experience you dreamed about. It is finally going to be real!
  7. How about getting ready for the Antarctica trip by photographing the exhilarating city of Buenos Aires. We spend three days prior to the trip in Buenos Aires to capture the gems of this Latin city.
  8. We take care of everything, starting in Buenos Aires (accommodation, meals, transportation, flight to Ushia, cruise). You just need to plan your flight from your hometown to Buenos Aires.
  9. Can't wait to meet you in Buenos Aires in November!

During the course of the workshop, you'll learn how to best use natural light, compose to get best results, and find “nuggets” that the instructor uses on daily basis when they photograph. How do you photograph icebergs maintaining proper perspective, how to properly meter contrasty scenes, how do you create inspiring composition in iconic places, how do you leverage the power of your digital camera still maintaining the discipline and selectivity of film photography.

And this is a workshop, where you can expect results. We focus on taking you to the right location based on light, time of the day, visual beauty and uniqueness. We review images nightly so you can tune up your skills on "making an image": capture, post processing, review, and print.

The group is kept small (maximum 10 people). The instructor teaches group lectures (e.g. Leverage your lens, master RAW processing, end to end workflow, managing and storing your images, output (everything from printing to lamination to electronic posting, and much more) and one on one for your specific needs. Our style is to open your eyes, mind, and creativity to possibilities that you thought were not reachable.

You'll have on hand the best tools for the job, one of the best locations to get your creative juices flowing, and an atmosphere conducive to sharing, learning, and meeting like minded people.

Hope to see you in South America in November.
