By fine Art, wildlife and nature photographer: Oliver Klink

Iceland is without a doubt one of the most exciting locations in the world for nature photography. You have it all: glaciers, ice caves, volcanoes, geysers, rivers, desert, grand landscape, reflections and more. Our focus is the South shore, where light is majestic, dramatic, and inspiring. We’ll explore Europe's largest glacier (Vatnajökull), Skatafell national park with dreamscape waterfalls, Laki crater lava fields with lush moss, Fjarðrárgljúfur beautiful canyons, lagoons with floating icebergs and even catch the Aurora Borealis. We planed an itinerary that is conducive to creative photography, minimizes travel time, and gets us to off-the-beaten path locations in our 4x4. This workshop gives you opportunities to broaden your field of photography by experiencing macro, telephoto, tilt shift, and wide angles. Come with an open mind and leave with a breath of new knowledge.

Among the dramatic light we'll focus on is the northern light, otherwise known as Aurora Borealis, undeniably one of the most breathtakingly beautiful natural phenomenons in the world. These natural light displays in the sky occur in the Polar Regions most frequently in a 2500 km radius centered on the geomagnetic pole. The auroral zone extends over Iceland, northern Scandinavia, and Greenland, continuing over northern Canada, Alaska and Siberia. The number of sunspots on the surface of the Sun is the main cause for the appearance of the auroras. The amount of sunspots follows an 11-year cycle, which will reach its peak in 2011-2012. As the cycle gets close to its maximum peak, scientists agree that the general conditions for viewing the northern lights in Iceland are exceedingly good, although their visibility is always subject to clear sky and calm weather.

During the course of the workshop, you'll learn how to best use natural light, compose to get best results, and find “nuggets” that the instructors use on daily basis when they photograph. How do you get a sharp image front to back properly exposed, how to integrate the zone system and HDR to digital photography, how do you capture iconic places and make your images look unique, how do you leverage the power of digital photography still maintaining the discipline and selectivity of film photography.

And this is a workshop, where you can expect results. We focus on taking you to the right location based on light, time of the day, visual beauty and uniqueness. We review images nightly so you can tune up your skills on "making an image": capture, post processing, review, and print.

The group is kept small (maximum 10 people). The instructor teaches group lectures (e.g. Leverage your lens, post processing, end to end workflow, managing and storing your images, output (everything from printing to lamination to electronic posting, and much more) and one on one for your specific needs. Our style is to open your eyes, mind, and creativity to possibilities that you thought were not reachable.

You'll be at one of the best locations to get your creative juices flowing, experience an atmosphere conducive to sharing, learning, and meeting like minded people.

Hope to see you in Iceland in September.
