Mongolia is wild in every sense of the word. With an area of approximately 1.6 million square kilometers, Mongolia is about four times as big as California and more than six times bigger than the entire United Kingdom. During the workshop, we’ll focus on festivals happening in the Gobi desert and Ulaanbaatar and will visit a nomadic family also in the Gobi desert.
From a “wildlife” perspective, Mongolia is as rich as Africa but with domesticated animals. We’ll first photograph Mongolian horses (herd of over 100 horses) performing for us in the vast open land and near rivers/trees. The landscape is prime for creative photography.
Next we’ll have the chance to photograph the eagle hunters. Capturing the bond between eagles and the Kazacks is something that will be imprinted in your mind for the rest of your life.
And finally, we’ll spend time with the Bactrian camels, first at a festival where they expect over 1,000 camels. Next we’ll have private photoshoots with a nomadic camel family in the Gobi desert. Imagine caravans of camels on sand dunes with the family wearing their traditional costumes, and an atmosphere prime to learn their customs and how they survive yearlong in the desert.
This workshop is taking place during the Mongolian winter. The scenery is spectacular, locals wear their furry outfit, overall an ideal stage for photography. To make the trip more comfortable, we have upgraded all the amenities to the best we can find in the regions we travel. We’ll stay in a top notch hotel in Ulaanbaatar, travel by air to reduce the driving time, drive in comfortable 4x4 land cruisers, have a private chef to cook food for us, and have a private GER at the camel festival to warm up and use for “portrait” photography.
For a few days when visiting the nomadic family, we’ll stay in GER. GERs are heated 24 hours a day, but will have limited running water and amenities. To enjoy this part of the trip, you need to wear your adventurous hat.

Terms and Conditions
- Accommodation is going to be a mix between hotels and local GERs. Sleeping arrangement will be three persons per GER.
- There are limited washing facilities for 3 days when visiting the nomadic camel family.
- Weather can be challenging. We are photographing during Mongolian winter, where temperature can be frigid.
- We have hired a private chef. Mongolian food ingredients include soup, vegetables (when available) and local meat
- We are traveling on highways and local unpaved bumpy roads.
- However, the photographic opportunities are incredible. It is an amazing adventure and photographic experience.
