Eastern Greenland, Sailing the Rugged Land of Scoresby Sound
September 13 – 20, 2017
12 participants
(SOLD OUT)
Greenland is the world´s biggest island located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans where 85% of the land is ice. Whales swim along the shores, icebergs flow from calving glaciers and flowers and arctic plants abound. The weather tends to be mild in early September, with some possibilities to witness the Northern Light.
This workshop focus is the remote fjords of Eastern Greenland. Traveling on a sturdy schooner (12 passengers maximum), we’ll explore the magnificent nature in Scoresby Sound. The Sound has a tree-like structure that branches into a system of fjords making it the largest fjord complex in the world extending 350km inland. The spectacular sceneries are made of granite mountains, white icebergs floating and reflecting on calm blue water, large glaciers, abundant wildlife, remote villages where local people still honor their roots; in other words a pure unspoiled and pristine nature and country.
Our journey starts at the Reykjavik airport, Iceland, where we fly to Eastern Greenland and load our sailboat. During the next 8 days, we’ll sail west between icebergs that gently drift under the influence of the currents in the Arctic, sail through the narrow Føhnfjord with the majestic basalt mountains of Gåseland on the port side and 2000 meters high sheer granite cliffs of Milne Land on the Starboard side, scout for muskoxen, snow hares, grouse, geese and other wildlife, have close look at some of the most amazing cliffs and a glacier front in Øfjord, explore in and around Jytteshavn in Bear Islands as this is possibly one of the nicest and most picturesque anchorages in Scoresby Sound, and much more.
See you in Greenland in early September for this unique adventure.

The exhibit is a selection of images of ice and rugged land from various parts of the world, including Iceland, the Arctic, Antarctica, and Alaska. His image, “Diamond Forever” has won many awards in local photocontests, and received “mentioned” in the Black and White Spidar Awards. “Photographing ice and rugged land in remote part of the world is rewarding, especially when you can see the changes over the year. Greenland is a special place, when you travel with a small group of people, have majectic landscape (almost) to yourself, and can reflect on the effect of the global changes.”
