Zambia (Africa): South Luangwa & Zambezi
Wildlife Day & Night Safari
October 15 - 28, 2018
SOLD OUT
Two Instructors
Our photo safari is designed to maximize wildlife viewing (aka minimize driving, time and distance, choosing hotels at close proximity to the photoshoot locations), whether it is for serious photography or simply the thrill of observing animals in their natural habitat.
Zambia is unique for a safari location because of the environment, the rare animals you can spot, the limited number of tourists, and the day and night safari drives opportunities.
The safari is scheduled during an exciting time of the year, when the weather provides glowing sunrises and sunset, when the light from the dust has an eerie orange, almost apocalyptic glow to it. Then the cloud build-up begins in anticipation of the first rains, offering dramatic skies, and perhaps a distant roll of thunder.
We are going to visit three high-end camps. The first two stops are in the South Luangwa National Park. The two places we'll visit are top notch for wildlife and nocturnal game drives. You'll travel in a 4x4 vehicle and each photographer has a full seat row to himself/herself (*if you join as a couple, you'll share one row seat). It guarantees access to both sides of the vehicle so you don't miss any action.
The third camp is located in the lower Zambezi National Park. We will explore the park both from the river and land. Traveling in small boats will provide an entirely different perspective from water level of elephants and hippos, birds and antelope as they go about their ways in or near the river. We will even have the opportunity to do a walking safari, an amazing feast to feel first hand where these animals live.
You'll also benefit from group lectures (focus on image quality, workflow speed and accuracy) and one-on-one reviews where we discuss “what can you do next, how can you expand your comfort zone, make images that have a personal flair”. The experience will enable you to enhance your photography, to work on personal projects, and to discover who you are as a photographer. Our style is to open your eyes, mind, and creativity to possibilities that you thought were not reachable. Bring your dreams to reality in this once in a lifetime workshop.
We’ll have exquisite nature and wildlife and the following added experience:
1. You will have two professional photographers (Oliver Klink, Gero Heine) leading this trip. Between both of them, they have over 30 years experience traveling in various countries in Africa. Every day, one instructor will be with you in the jeep.
2. Both Oliver’s and Gero’s technical expertise covers the gamut from DSLR, to mirrorless camera, to digital medium format camera. You’ll receive first hand advices that they use on a daily basis with their various cameras. We will build your confidence so you get ready for “the shots”.
3. Oliver and Gero will teach you how to photograph and find a vision for your photographic endeavor. There are no substitutes to nightly image reviews, one-on-one instructions, and guidelines to best capture these amazing scenes. You’ll be able to get creative day after day and get inspired by the wealth of knowledge they share.
4. Our group is kept to 6 people maximum, which enables us to be nimble and find the best spots to experience wildlife.
5. Prime dates for the trip. The glowing weather will provide unique scenery. We are also avoiding the high tourist season.
6. Come back home with images and experience you dreamed about. It is finally going to be real!
7. You will photograph both from land and water. Get different perspectives of the various wildlife we will encounter.
8. This is a true 15 days safari. The trip starts and ends in Lusaka, Zambia. No gimmicks about including traveling days from and to your home country.
9. We will take internal flights (included in the price of the workshop) to maximize time for wildlife viewing.
10. We'll modify the seating arrangement in the 4x4 vehicle to have more space for low angle shooting and setting up tripods for special photoshoots.
11. Special access to wildlife viewing, special setting in the 4x4, parks scouted for best wildlife opportunity, unique photoshoot opportunities - A safari workshop designed for photographers to make dreams come true!
Hope to see you in October at our Zambia Wildlife Experience. Don't delay your registration as we take only 6 participants :-)

Oliver Klink has been photographing in Africa since 2006. His image, “The Great Migration” won the grand prize at PhotoCentral Gallery Spring Show in 2013, others have received “mentioned” in the Black and White Spidar Awards for the past 7 years. “On my first trip to Africa, I wanted to see everything. I spent more time driving from famous locations to famous locations. After so many years, I have minimized the travel time to stop at parks that are unbelievable for specific species. This workshop is not a “zoo tour”. During our first review session, I will ask you: “Can this image be taken in a zoo?” Our local guides are passionate about wildlife and eager to be the first one out in the morning and last one in in the evening. Time spend in the field is key to embrace this one in a life time experience.”
Gero Heine has been photographing wildlife and wild places in Africa, India, Alaska and the Western United States for the past 15 years. He is involved in conservation efforts and has volunteered in a lion research project.
Gero previously won the Wildlife Category of Nature's Best Photography Magazine's Windland Smith Rice International Awards, with his work consequently displayed at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. He was a Top 10 image award winner by NANPA (North American Nature Photography Association), was twice selected a Winning Finalist in the "Great Outdoors" Contest by PDN Magazine, and a Merit Award recipient in BW Magazine’s and Color Magazine’s Single Image Contests.
